Brazil strengthens Health Security: ANVISA releases results of the Potential Risk Monitoring and Intervention Pilot Project
ANVISA has published the results of the Pilot Project for Monitoring and Intervening in Potential Risk, developed in 2024 as part of the Safe Service Project (P13). This initiative marks a new stage in health risk management in Brazil, using the MARP®/ROI methodology to identify, monitor and intervene in potential risks in Health Services and Services of Interest to Health (SSIS) at national level.
The report presents concrete evidence on the impact of the intervention strategies in the services evaluated. The main results show significant reductions in the levels of potential unacceptable risk:
Operating Room (Surgical Center): 46.5% reduction
Adult Intensive Care Unit (Adult ICU): 69.2% reduction
Sterilization Center (CME Type II): 34.3% reduction
Residential facilities for the elderly (ERPI/ILPI): 57.4% reduction
The implementation of this project involved a joint effort between ANVISA, the state and municipal health surveillance authorities, with interventions such as:
Systematic service evaluations;
Definition and implementation of action plans;
Training and technical capacity-building programs;
Monitoring based on critical indicators.
The report concludes that the monitoring and intervention model is effective, recommending that it be institutionalized as a continuous and structured program, with progressive targets until 2027.
For medical device manufacturers and healthcare institutions, this approach is a valuable reference for reinforcing safety practices and demonstrating commitment to quality and regulatory compliance.
